In her interview with Star Sports, Jemimah Rodrigues spoke about on the growth of women’s cricket in India in the last few years. According to Jemimah, fans don’t care whether they are watching the games of the men’s or women’s team.
The Women in Blue have performed well in international cricket. The success of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) has also made the women’s cricket famous.
Jemimah lauded legendary players, Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami, for keeping the interest level alive in women’s team. She feels they are the reason people came to know about women’s cricket in India and the current generation is riding high on their hard work.
Jemimah Rodrigues also highlighted the turning point behind the growth of women’s cricket. Jemimah feels the expectations of fans keep her hunger intact to give match-winning performances.
“I had only heard of Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj while growing up. I didn’t even know how they looked because the games were not televised. They played cricket without getting any fame and now we are enjoying the fruits of their hard work. We have reached this level because of them,” she said on Star Sports.
“Now everyone knows about Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and others. Fans are aware of women’s cricket. The crowd gets excited after seeing our games.
“Now people don’t care if it’s a men’s or women’s cricket team. The excitement and josh is high for the women’s cricket team,” she added
The BCCI announced the 15-member squad for the Women’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to take place in the UAE from October 3 to 20. Jemimah Rodrigues will represent the India National Cricket Team in the global tournament.
