The Indian cricket team is currently in a training camp in Chennai, where preparations are going on for the Test series against Bangladesh starting next week. On one hand, the entire team is practicing hard under the supervision of coach Gautam Gambhir, while away from Chennai, Team India's star fast bowler Mohammed Shami is trying to get fully fit but at the moment he is not getting much success on this front. A report has claimed that Shami will not be able to get fit before the Test series against New Zealand next month and in such a situation he may sit out of that series as well.

Veteran fast bowler Shami has been away from cricket action for the last 10 months. The 34-year-old star pacer suffered a heel injury during the ODI World Cup last year, but despite the pain, he played till the final of the tournament and took the most wickets. He has not returned to the field since the World Cup. In February this year, he underwent surgery in London, after which he has been engaged in rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy and his home.

Will not play against New Zealand either

Due to not being fully fit, Shami was kept away from selection for the Test series against Bangladesh and it was believed that he would return to cricket by playing one or two matches in the Ranji Trophy next month and then return to Team India from the New Zealand series. Now this plan also does not seem to be successful at the moment. A report by Sportskeeda has claimed that it is very difficult for Shami to be fit for the 3-match Test series. This India-New Zealand series is starting from October 16, for which the Kiwi team will come to India. The report has claimed, quoting Shami's close ones, that he will not be able to participate in any match of the series and will be in a position to return only from the India-Australia series.

Will return from this series

This year, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played between India and Australia for which Team India will tour Australia in November. This time there will be 5 Test matches in the series, which will start from Perth on 22 November and the last match of the series will be played in Sydney in January 2025. Team India can also manage without Shami in the Bangladesh and New Zealand series because both the series will be played in India and here spinners will handle more workload but in Australia, Team India will need Shami in any case.

Shami said a big thing on fitness

However, Shami will have to play some Ranji Trophy matches before the Australia tour. Shami himself does not want to compromise on his fitness and has decided to return only after being fully fit. During an event in Kolkata, Shami said that he is also trying to return as soon as possible but while doing so, he does not want to leave any doubts about his fitness in his mind. Shami, who has played 64 Test matches for India, said that the better fit he is and the lesser will be the chances of getting injured again, no matter which Test series he returns to the pitch.
