On 11 September, England played not one but two matches and lost both. One defeat was the one they faced from Australia in the very first match of the T20 series. The second defeat was suffered by them against Ireland in the last match of the ODI series. Just like the England men's team is playing the white ball series against Australia, the women's team there is also busy playing the white ball series against Ireland. The Ireland women's team has not only avoided a clean sweep by winning the last match of the ODI series against England but has also ended the wait of 23 years.
Ireland last defeated England in a women's ODI in 2001. After that, this was the first time that England's women's team surrendered before Ireland. Ireland defeated England by 3 wickets in the third and final match of the ODI series, in which its 18-year-old bowler Amy Maguire played a big role.
The third ODI played between England and Ireland was affected by rain. This 50 over match was reduced to 22-22 overs. England batted first but could not stay on the wicket for the entire 22 overs. Their game ended after scoring 153 runs in 20.5 overs. The reason for England's poor condition was Amy Magyar, who took 5 wickets for 19 runs in 3.5 overs.
Now Ireland had a target of 154 runs, which they achieved by losing 7 wickets. Ireland won this match on the last ball and ended their wait that had been going on since 2001. England's bowlers tried their best to stop Ireland before the target but they could not succeed.
Ireland also avoided a clean sweep by winning the last match of the ODI series. England won the series 2-1. They won the first ODI by 4 wickets and the second ODI by 275 runs. Now the T20 series will be played between the two teams from September 14, which will be especially important for England for the T20 World Cup to be held next month.
