Brad Hogg has made the bold claim of having Ravindra Jadeja come in at No.5 while snubbing KL Rahul from India's playing XI for the first Test against Bangladesh.
Jadeja has been on a break after the T20 World Cup and also didn't participate in the Duleep Trophy 2024 first match as well. Rahul, on the other hand, took part in the tournament and returned with scores of 37 and 57 while playing for the India A team. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Hogg went on to reveal his Indian playing XI for the first match in Chennai. The former spinner went with Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli as his top 4. When it came to the No.5 batter, Hogg went with Jadeja as his option as he wanted to keep the left-right combination going. Hogg would also have Sarfaraz Khan and the returning Rishabh Pant in his lineup before coming to the bowlers. For the bowling lineup, he went with R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah and decided to not include Axar Patel. "The XI that I am going or the first Test match against Bangladesh for India - Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma open the batting. Gill at three, Kohli at 4, and Jadeja coming at five just to keep that left-handed right-hand combination going. Sarfaraz Khan, Pant and then you're into the bowlers, where you've got Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Siraj, and Bumrah," said Hogg. Hogg felt this team would do well in Australia as well and would be a good base to start the preparations for the Border-Gavaskar trophy. "That team will go pretty well down in Australia as well. So, they've got to start warming up for the Australian summer. India, so this will be a good start for them. No KL Rahul or Axar Patel in my playing XI," he added. According to the latest reports, Rahul is expected to be in the lineup for the 1st Test against Bangladesh ahead of Sarfaraz Khan. India squad for Bangladesh 1st Test Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd.
