Former India batsman Sunil Gavaskar has urged the Rajasthan Royals team management to promote wicket-keeper batsman Dhruv Jurrell in their batting order for the upcoming IPL 2024 edition.

Gavaskar made the claim about Jurrell while speaking at an event organized by the official TV broadcaster of the IPL after watching the young player up close during the 5-match Test series against England. Dhruv Jurrell, who made his Test debut after dropping KS Bharat from the Indian playing XI, was instrumental in India's 4-1 series win. Jurel earned his first Test cap in the 3rd Test at Rajkot after being disappointed by Bharat's performances in the first two Tests in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. India lost the first Test by 28 runs but leveled the series with a 106-run win in Vizag. Gavaskar says Dhruv Jurrell deserves a promotion to the top order While speaking, Gavaskar praised Dhruv Jurel for his batting performance throughout the Test series and also for his performance in the previous IPL edition. The 23-year-old, who made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals last year, has mainly appeared at No 6 or 7 in the lower-middle order. From there, Dhruv Jurel scored 152 runs in 13 league matches at a daunting strike rate of 172.73 as Rajasthan Royals finished 5th in the points table. With all this in mind, Sunil Gavaskar is seriously looking to move Jurel up the order. "Dhruv Jurrell could definitely be that guy. The way he has batted this year and the way he batted in the last IPL, he can definitely get promoted up the order. - Gavaskar said in Event. This is not the first time that Gavaskar has praised Jurrell for his batting performance as he had previously made positive comments about him during the Test series against England when he was away. The 23-year-old was instrumental in India's 5-wicket win in the 4th Test at Ranchi's JSCA Stadium last month. Dhruv Jurel scored a very good and much needed 90 off 149 balls during India's 1st innings and his strike came right when India needed it most. The hosts were in dire straits after losing 7 wickets for 177 in reply to England's first innings total of 307. Jurel's innings kept India consistent in the game and finished the first innings with 307 runs on the board. In the 4th innings, when England asked the Indians to chase 192 runs for victory, with Agra-born batsman Shubman Gill, India put on a partnership of 72 runs and lost 5 wickets for 120 runs.
