Delhi : South Africa has started preparations for the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan next year. The South African Cricket Board has decided to rest its regular players before the upcoming ODI tournament and has decided to try some new players.

Cricket South Africa on Monday announced its team for the series against Afghanistan and Ireland in September and October. Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Enrique Nortya, Marco Jansen, Tabrez Shamsi, Gerald Cootzi, David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen have not been included in this team. In their place, young players like all-rounder Jason Smith, Nkabayomji Peter and Andley Simelene have been given a chance.

In this tour, the South African team will play 8 matches in 20 days, which includes 6 ODIs and 2 T20s. The team will play 3 ODIs against Afghanistan in UAE between 18 and 22 September. After this, the team will go to Abu Dhabi, where 2 T20 matches will be played against Ireland on 27 and 29 September and 3 ODIs from 2 to 7 October. All these matches will be held at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Ngidi got a chance, De Kock was not selected

Lungi Ngidi has returned to the team, who was not a part of the Windies tour due to injury. However, Quinton de Kock has not been given a place in the team this time. Also, fast bowler Quen Mphaka is busy with school exams.

Markram, Hendricks and Simelane have been included in the ODI squad against Afghanistan, but they have not been selected for the ODI series against Ireland. Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton will only play in the ODI series against Ireland.
