Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka scored a brilliant century in the Oval Test against England. Nissanka scored a century in just 107 balls in the second innings. This century of Nissanka is historic because for the first time a Sri Lankan batsman has scored a century in the fourth innings in England. The interesting thing is that Pathum Nissanka did not get a chance in the playing eleven of the first Test match and when he came in the playing eleven in the Lord's Test, he could score only 26 runs in both the innings combined, but at the Oval this player scored a half-century in the first innings and a brilliant double century in the second innings. On the basis of this century of Pathum Nissanka, Sri Lanka also defeated England.
Nisanka's brilliant century forced England to kneel down. This right-handed batsman batted brilliantly and easily achieved the target of 220 runs given by England. Chasing the score in the fourth innings against England is not easy at all, but Pathum Nisanka's special innings proved to be too much for the English.

Pathum Nissanka is the 8th Sri Lankan opener to score a Test century against England. Sanath Jayasuriya, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Sidath Wettimuny, Marvan Atapattu have achieved this feat. Russell Arnold, Amal Silva and now Pathum Nissanka have scored Test centuries against England. Pathum Nissanka not only scored runs but also made excellent partnerships. He made a partnership of 39 runs with Dimuth Karunaratne. After this, he added 69 runs with Kusal Mendis. In the end, this player along with Mathews made an unbeatable partnership of 111 runs and gave the team an 8-wicket victory. Pathum Nissanka remained unbeaten till the end, he played an innings of 127 runs in 124 balls. In his innings, he hit 2 sixes, 14 fours.
Pathum Nissanka's batting technique is amazing and is highly praised but it is surprising that this player has played only 11 Test matches so far. Nissanka's performance in these matches has also been good. He has scored 750 runs in 11 Tests so far at an average of 44.11. Nissanka has scored 2 centuries and 6 half-centuries in Tests.
