New Delhi: The England Cricket Board (ECB) announced Brandon McCullum as the new head coach of the white-ball formats on September 3. McCullum is already the head coach of the Test cricket team and will now take charge of all formats from 2025 under a new three-year deal that will extend his tenure until 2027.
McCullum transformed the Test team with captain Ben Stokes. England won 19 out of the 28 Test matches under their leadership. He will be taking charge of the white-ball teams in January 2025 during England’s tour in India, followed by the ICC Champions Trophy. For the Australia home series and the West Indies tour in October-November, assistant coach Marcus Trescothick has been named as the interim white-ball coach. ‘Brendon will just take the pressure off from Jos Buttler’: Moeen Ali Moeen Ali announced his retirement from international cricket on September 8. He has played 68 Test matches, 138 ODI matches and 92 T20Is for England, scoring 6678 runs, and 366 wickets across all formats. He also won the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup with England. Moeen talked about the appointment of Brendon McCullum as white-ball coach and said that Brendon will help Jos Buttler more than anything as England’s white-ball captain has so much on his plate. “I think Brendon just brings, it helps the fact he has been there, done it, and the way he played. I think it can be quite difficult if a coach says ‘go do this’ but they never did” said Moeen to Daily Mail. “Brendon brings that sort of energy and I think it will be great for Jos more than anything. Jos has so much on his plate with batting, keeping, and captaining. I think Brendon will just take the pressure off and he can just play and captain on the field. “Brendon will be more in control I think” he added.
