Delhi: Former Indian team player Vikram Rathore has been appointed as the batting coach of New Zealand for the only Test match against Afghanistan. Rathore has played six Test matches for India. Recently he was the chief assistant of Rahul Dravid's Indian coaching staff.
With this, former Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath has replaced Saqlain Mushtaq as New Zealand's bowling coach, as Saqlain is now playing a big role in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said that Rangana and Rathore are highly respected in the cricket world, and their presence will greatly benefit the players.
Stead said, “We are excited to include Rangana and Vikram in our Test team. Our players will have the opportunity to learn a lot from them. Especially for our three left-arm spinners – Ajaz Patel, Mitchell Santner and Rachin Ravindra, this will prove to be very beneficial during Test matches in the subcontinent.”

Earlier on Thursday, the New Zealand team reached Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh for the only Test against Afghanistan. This Test will be played from 9 to 13 September at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground. The entire team including New Zealand captain Tim Southee, batsman Kane Williamson and vice-captain Tom Latham reached Delhi on Thursday morning, from where they left for Greater Noida.
