Nicholas Pooran, the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) batter, set the stage on fire in the third match of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 when he scored 97 runs off just 43 balls against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots (SNP) on August 31 at the Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts.
The former West Indies T20I captain also broke compatriot Chris Gayle’s 9-year-old record for hitting maximum sixes in a calendar year. Pooran turned the beast mode on as he hit nine sixes in his innings against SNP in the CPL 2024 and stamped his authority as one of the best T20 power-hitters in the world at the moment.   Pooran Surpasses Gayle In All-Time Six-Hitting Record By hitting nine sixes in his spectacular innings, Pooran surpassed Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a calendar year. The 28-year-old Pooran now has 139 sixes from 58 T20 matches in 2024, while Gayle had struck 135 sixes in 36 T20 matches back in 2015. Surpassing Gayle on the six-hitting record list is a remarkable achievement in itself. Interestingly, Gayle holds six of the top ten spots for the most sixes in a single year. Here is the list of players with the most sixes in a single year: - Nicholas Pooran – 139* (2024) - Chris Gayle – 135 (2015) - Chris Gayle – 121 (2012) - Chris Gayle – 116 (2011) - Chris Gayle – 112 (2016) - Chris Gayle – 101 (2017) - Andre Russell – 101 (2019) - Chris Gayle – 100 (2013) - Glenn Phillips – 97 (2021) - Kieron Pollard – 96 (2019)   Pooran is also on course to surpass Pakistan batter Mohammad Rizwan's record for the most runs in T20s in a single year. Currently, Alex Hales (1946 runs in 2022) and Mohammad Rizwan (2036 runs in 2021) hold the top two spots. With 1844 runs already accumulated, Pooran is well-positioned to take the lead by the end of the ongoing CPL season 2024. In the TKR vs SNP CPL 2024 match, Pooran's explosive batting performance helped TKR set a total of 250 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. They then restricted the hosts to 206 runs, securing a 44-run victory.
