Andrew Flintoff was a legendary all-rounder in his time. He won many matches for the England team with his bowling and batting. He was associated with the England team only last year. He was also with the team during the T20 World Cup 2024. Now he was going to play the role of consultant coach in the series against Australia. But ODI and T20 team captain Jos Buttler recently showed Flintoff the way out. Now Test team captain and all-rounder Ben Stokes has given him a chance. Andrew Flintoff has been called to work with England batsmen ahead of the third Test against Sri Lanka at the Oval next week.

Why did Flintoff get a chance?

Andrew Flintoff will help the England team's batsmen before the third Test to be held at the Oval. According to Cricinfo's report, he will be a part of Brendon McCullum's staff during the third Test. He has been called only for the Test series against Sri Lanka. The biggest reason behind adding Flintoff to the Test team is that assistant coach Marcus Trescothick will go on a short break after the second Test. Flintoff has been given this responsibility for a short term. There is no possibility of him being associated with the team after the Sri Lanka series.

Trescothick causes harm to Flintoff

Recently, England White Ball Head Coach Matthew Mott was removed. After this, Flintoff was also removed on the request of Butler. According to media reports, Marcus Trescothick has a good friendship with Butler. Both the players have also played together for Somerset.

On the other hand, the bonding between Andrew Flintoff and Jos Buttler was not good, due to which he suffered. He lost the role of consultant coach in the ODI and T20 series against Australia. Trescothick, on the other hand, got the benefit of friendship and replaced Flintoff. He has also been made the interim coach of the white ball team. Now it is being said that he can soon become the full time head coach.
