Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jay Shah was elected as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council. The ICC also announced this on the last day of nomination on 27 August. There was no other candidate for this post except Jay Shah, so the boss of the Indian board was elected unopposed. While Jay Shah got the support of almost all the members of the ICC board in this matter, the Pakistan Cricket Board created a ruckus and did not support him.

ICC had announced last week that the current chairman Greg Barclay refused to serve a third consecutive term. After this, ICC had called for nominations for the new chairman, the last date for which was 27 August. Since then, speculations had intensified that Shah would stake his claim for this post and he would not face any opposition. Ultimately this is what happened and he was elected chairman.

PCB kept watching silently

A report by CricketNext revealed that 15 out of 16 members of the ICC board supported the nomination of BCCI secretary Shah. Even the England and Australian cricket boards voted in favour of Jay Shah. This was already enough for Jay Shah's selection as he needed the support of only 9 members. Amidst all this, only the Pakistan Cricket Board did not support Shah, despite knowing that there was no other contender. According to the report, Pakistan did not vote against Shah but was also not in his favour and did not give any response from its side.

Will it affect the Champions Trophy?

Jay Shah will take over as ICC chairman from December 1. In such a situation, the question is whether Pakistan has created a mess by not supporting Shah? This question is also important because the Champions Trophy 2025 is to be organized in Pakistan in February-March next year, but Team India is unlikely to go to it. In such a situation, Pakistan will be forced to organize it hybrid and with Jay Shah at the top of the ICC, their last hope has also been shattered.
