Bangladesh Cricket Team players have come out in support of their veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who was charged with the alleged murder of a garment worker during the protests in the country on August 5. Shakib, Bangladesh's greatest and one of the modern-day game's best all-format players, played a handy role in helping Bangladesh clinch its maiden Test win over Pakistan in Rawalpindi by ten wickets.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and keeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim took to social media to support their teammate and star player after the first Test win. Shanto said everyone was shocked by such allegations against him and is confident that Shakib will come out of this clean.  "He's been raising the name of Bangladesh in the world for 17 long years," Shanto wrote on Facebook. "Such a case against Shakib bhai is unexpected. In the new Bangladesh, we all want to see something new. I hope all the darkness will pass off and new light will come."
On the other hand, Mushfiqur also provided support to his long-time teammate and friend Shakib. "As a teammate and a brother, I will be there during his tough times, and I do not support the false allegations made against him because I know he would never engage in inhumane actions," Rahim stated. Although Shakib is yet to respond to such allegations, which did derail the team's morale during the first Test against Pakistan, their historic win will boost their confidence, with the series win on the line. Meanwhile, student-led nationwide protests in Bangladesh led Sheikh Hasina to flee to India, with her reign falling apart. Shakib was also a former lawmaker for Hasina's Awami League Party. Shakib not in country during the protests When Mohammed Rubel was killed during the unrest in the country, Shakib was not even present in Bangladesh, as he was playing the Global T20 League in Canada. Before that, the left-handed all-rounder was in the USA, participating in the Major League Cricket (MLC) until mid-July. Shakib got involved in the Global T20 League from July 26 till August 9. Soon after, Shakib got picked for the two Tests against Pakistan. The second match will begin on August 30 in Rawalpindi.
