Kolkata Knight Riders want Suryakumar Yadav to captain the franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. According to Sportskeeda, the defending champions have made an unofficial offer to the T20I skipper of Team India. It seems KKR are likely to part ways with Shreyas Iyer, who led them to their third IPL title in 2024.

SKY’s graph has skyrocketed in the last few years, with the Team India management giving him the captain’s armband in the shortest format.

Yadav was associated with the Kolkata-based franchise for years before leaving for Mumbai Indians. The Knight Riders couldn’t make full use of Surya’s talent, and he showed his class for Mumbai in the cash-rich league.

He has been a key member of MI, scoring runs consistently for the five-time champions. SKY was one of the leading contenders to replace Rohit Sharma as captain of Mumbai Indians. Still, the owners and the management decided to hand over the responsibility to Hardik Pandya for IPL 2024.

This didn’t go down well with Rohit, SKY, and Jasprit Bumrah, the three senior members of the franchise. Rohit and Suryakumar are likely to leave Mumbai before the mega auction.

In 150 IPL matches, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 3594 at an average of 32.38 and a strike rate of 145.33. The right-handed batter has hit 2 hundreds, 24 fifties, 385 fours, and 130 sixes in his illustrious career.

Magnificent start to captaincy career

Suryakumar Yadav led India in a three-match T20I series against Sri, his first assignment as the team’s regular captain. The Men in Blue won 3-0, with SKY getting the Player of the Series.

He will next be seen in the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the selectors don’t consider him for one-day internationals and Test cricket.
