Delhi : Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has shared his opinion on the possibility of Jasprit Bumrah becoming the captain of the Indian national cricket team. There were talks about Bumrah becoming the captain after Rohit Sharma retired from the T20 format after the T20 World Cup, but later the T20I captaincy was handed over to Suryakumar Yadav.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Karthik praised Bumrah's captaincy skills but also stressed on maintaining the pacer's fitness. Karthik warned that the added responsibility of captaincy could increase Bumrah's risk of injury.

Karthik said, “The challenge of getting Bumrah to play in all three formats can be huge. This can be an important question for the selectors as to how we manage him.” Describing Bumrah as a “Kohinoor diamond” for Indian cricket, he said that it is very important to take care of his health.

Karthik further said, “As a fast bowler, especially a player like Bumrah, it is very important to save him and play him in important matches. We want Bumrah to remain fit and effective for a long time. If he gets injured due to playing more matches due to the responsibility of captaincy, then it will be a matter of great concern.”
