New Zealand Tour Of Sri Lanka 2024: A two-Test match series will be played between Sri Lanka and New Zealand in September. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board announced the schedule on Friday (23 August). This series will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship and the New Zealand team will play a Test against Sri Lanka on its soil after 5 years.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board announced that the two-Test match series against New Zealand will be played in Galle from 18 September. However, due to the presidential election in Sri Lanka, six days have been kept for the first Test match. The board has informed that 21 September has been kept as a rest day.

In Sri Lanka, a rest day has been kept in a Test match after 2001 and after 16 years in total. Earlier, there used to be a rest day in Test matches but since then it has been abolished but in the 21st century, rest days have been kept in Tests only due to special circumstances like elections and religious rituals. The last time a 6-day time was kept for a Test match played in Dhaka was in 2008 due to general elections.

The second and last Test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand will be played in Galle from September 26. Let us tell you that before this, the New Zealand team had come to Sri Lanka in August 2019, and then the two-Test match series was drawn.

The Sri Lankan team is currently playing a three-Test match series against England. On the other hand, before the Sri Lanka tour, the New Zealand team will play a single Test match against Afghanistan in Greater Noida. Then after the Sri Lanka tour, it will play a three-Test match series against India. Let us tell you that in the current points table of the World Test Championship, New Zealand is at third place and Sri Lanka is at fourth place.
