The Bengaluru-born holds several records in Test cricket.
India's batting great can take pride in the fact that he faced the most balls in Test cricket. Overall, he has faced a staggering 31,258 balls in the longest format of the game. In terms of the overs, it is almost 5,210 overs.
This goes to show how resilient and determined he was during the heydays of his cricketing career.
He is also the fourth-highest run-scorer in the format's history. Dravid called it quits in 2012 and finished his career with his head held high. Overall, he scored 13,288 runs in 270 Test innings, with an impressive batting average of 52.31. Notably, he hit 36 Test centuries, second only to Sachin Tendulkar's 51 among Indian batsmen.
When Rahul Dravid etched his name into the record books
It is also worth mentioning here that Dravid also became the first player to score centuries in all ten Test-playing nations, a spectacular feat he achieved during a match against Bangladesh in Chattogram in 2004
During that game, Gautam Gambhir, who later became India's chief coach, scored his first Test century.
Dravid reached his 18th century off 196 balls. Together, Dravid (160) and Gambhir (139) put up a 259-run liaison, which was India's highest second-wicket stand away from India at the time.
While Gambhir played with intent, Dravid stuck to his natural style of play, while captain Sourav Ganguly scored 88, to help India post a total of 540. On the contrary, Bangladesh's Mohammad Ashraful chipped in with an unbeaten 158,
Despite Ashraful's knock, the hosts couldn't avoid a follow-on or an innings defeat.
Irfan Pathan played a substantial role with the ball, bagging a fifer and secured the win.
India won by an innings and 83 runs, wrapping up the match and the series on the fourth day's play.
Team India are gearing up for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, with the Test opener slated to be held on September 19 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The second and final Test will kick off on September 27 at Green Park in Kanpur.
