Sai Sudharsan, who has been named in Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Team C for Duleep Trophy first-round matches, has made himself available to feature in Surrey's next two County Championship matches.
The Tamil Nadu youngster featured in Surrey's last Championship match with Essex at the Kia Oval in June, and will now be playing against Lancashire and Nottinghamshire. "Sudharsan had another strong 2024 for the Gujurat Titans in the IPL, scoring his first century in the competition and making over 500 runs. The top-order batter also made his ODI debut for India, impressing with two half-centuries in three innings against South Africa," Surrey said while making the announcement. Does that mean that the 22-year-old will miss the Duleep Trophy first-round matches which starts from September 5? Will Sai Sudharsan miss Duleep Trophy match for County Championship games? Surrey's match against Lancashire is scheduled to start on Thursday, August 22, while the fixture against Nottinghamshire will be held from August 29 to September 1 at the Trent Bridge. That means that the left-hand batter will need to leave for India right after the end of Surrey's match against Nottinghamshire. The Duleep Trophy 2024 matches will be held in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. There is no direct flight to Anantapur, and therefore will have to travel by road from Bengaluru or Tirupati airports. Sai Sudharsan will certainly join Duleep Trophy Team C squad on time, but boarding a flight to India right after a match, and then reaching Anantapur is bound to drain him of his energy. Team C would want Sudharsan at his best as he is expected to play a very key role for them. Surrey are at the top of the Division One points table after winning six and losing just one of their nine matches so far. They will be without Sai Sudharsan for their last two matches.
