South Africa won the 2-match series Test Series In the last match of the 2018 Test series, India defeated West Indies by 40 runs on the third day itself. With this, South Africa won the series 1-0. Spinner Keshav Maharaj played an important role in helping South Africa win the second Test. He took 2 wickets in the first innings and 3 in the second innings. He took a total of 5 wickets in the second match. With this, Maharaj has 171 wickets in 52 Test matches. With this, Maharaj has now become the highest wicket-taker in red-ball cricket for the Proteas. Before him, Hugh Tayfield held the record for most wickets by a spinner for South Africa in Tests.

Hugh Tayfield played a total of 37 Tests for South Africa in his 11-year long international career which ended in 1960 and took 170 wickets. Maharaj has surpassed him to become the highest wicket-taking spinner for South Africa. A total of eight bowlers have taken more wickets than Maharaj for South Africa in Tests, but all of them are fast bowlers.

Dale Steyn holds the record for most Test wickets for South Africa. He finished his career with 439 wickets in 93 Test matches. Steyn is followed by Shaun Pollock (421), Makhaya Ntini (390), Allan Donald (330), Mornel Morkel (309), Kagiso Rabada (299), Jacques Kallis (291) and Vernon Philander (224).
