Manchester Originals faced Birmingham Phoenix in the last league match of The Hundred 2024. The rain-affected match was reduced to 30-30 balls which Birmingham Phoenix won and qualified for the eliminator. Phoenix captain Moeen Ali won the toss and decided to field first and Ali's decision proved right for his team.
However, Manchester Originals opener Phil Salt scared the Phoenix fans by hitting Tim Southee for a six off the first ball of the second set. Southee bowled a full length delivery on the pads to Phil Salt, who played a brilliant flick shot and sent the ball over the square leg boundary for 6 runs.
Although the fielder could not catch this shot of Salt, a spectator present in the stands definitely caught it. The video of this shot of his is going viral on social media. However, Salt could not stay at the crease for long after hitting this six and was dismissed by Adam Milne. Batting first, the Originals scored 41/5 runs at the end of the stipulated 30 balls.
In response, Birmingham Phoenix's opening pair, Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett, gave their team a great start. The early onslaught from both batsmen took the match away from the Originals and Phoenix easily achieved the target with just one wicket lost with eight balls to spare. This win means that Phoenix have qualified for the Eliminator and will compete against Southern Brave for a place in the top-flight of the tournament.
