Morkel may join the Indian team for the Test series against Bangladesh. His tenure will last till the 2027 World Cup. He will report to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru early next month and is expected to watch the Duleep Trophy matches. After reaching there, he will also meet VVS Laxman and NCA bowling head Troy Cooley. According to reports, former fast bowlers Lakshmipathy Balaji and Vinay Kumar were ahead of Morkel in the race for the bowling coach, but he has been selected after Gautam Gambhir's recommendation.

A BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity that the Cricket Advisory Committee's (CAC) job was to interview candidates for the head coach. When it came to selecting the support staff, Gambhir's choice had to be given priority. He has worked with Morne and values ​​him highly as a bowling coach. So when it became clear that Morkel would carry forward the good work done by Mhambrey, the names of Balaji and Vinay were not considered.

Gambhir and Morkel have also worked together in the IPL. Both these veterans worked for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. At the same time, Morkel was a part of the same team even after Gambhir joined Kolkata Knight Riders last season. 39-year-old Morne Morkel retired from international cricket in 2018. After this, Morne Morkel was the coach of the Pakistan team during the ODI Cup held in India last year, but after the poor performance of the team, he left his post a few months before his contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ended. In his career, he played 86 Test matches, 117 ODIs and 44 T20 matches for South Africa. During this, Morne Morkel took 309 wickets in Tests, 188 wickets in ODIs and 47 wickets in T20s. He also participated in the IPL as a player.
