Former Australia bowler Brad Hogg expects coach Ricky Ponting to come up with a solution for Prithvi Shaw's dismal batting form ahead of Delhi Capitals' highly anticipated IPL 2024 campaign.

The young opener has failed to live up to expectations with low-scoring tallies in IPL 2022 and 2023, which could pose a major problem for DC's top-order. Shaw has been one of the big names in the Delhi Capitals batting order since breaking through the ranks in 2018. Owing to his free-flowing performances in recent seasons, especially in IPL 2021, where he amassed 479 runs in 15 matches, helped him cement his spot as an opener. He has been partnering veteran Australia batter David Warner as the opener for DC for the last two seasons. However, due to his underwhelming performance in IPL 2023, where he managed to score just 106 runs in eight matches at an average of 13.25, saw him drop out of DC's starting XI and the Indian team setup. Brad Hogg in his recent YouTube video discussed how DC head coach, Ponting, will focus majorly on sorting out their powerplay plans with the bat, which starts with tackling the Shaw issue at the top. "Ponting will firstly address Prithvi Shaw's form. He is not living up to his expectations at the moment. He has got to change the way he goes about his business, he has got to gain confidence," Hogg said. Hogg went on to explain how Shaw improving his game, would enhance the overall structure of the DC batting order. "Ponting will be really working on that (Shaw's form) with his strategy for the first six overs. If he can turn things around and compliment Warner, then the middle order can come into play," Hogg added. After impressing the entire cricket fraternity by leading the U-19 India side to the World Cup title in 2018, Prithvi stretched his from to the IPL. After getting picked up by DC in 2018, the young batter built further on his reputation by scoring 245 runs in his nine appearances in his first season. However, his form has dipped significantly since IPL 2020. Despite his dismal form, Prithvi was retained by DC for IPL 2024, hoping for a turnaround in their fortunes as well as that for the now 25-year-old Shaw. DC will look to bounce back from their ninth place finish in IPL 2023 with a positive start to their 2024 campaign when they face Punjab Kings on March 23 in Mohali.
