Mumbai Indians might be in for a huge shock as the National Cricket Academy has not cleared star batter Suryakumar Yadav for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. The IPL 2024 will start on March 22, with Chennai Super Kings hosting Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening match. Suryakumar underwent a fitness assessment on Tuesday at the NCA and the academy has withheld his clearance to participate in the cash-rich league. However, the Indian player has another chance to prove his fitness for the tournament as a final fitness assessment test will be conducted on March 21 to confirm his status. Suryakumar will most likely be unavailable for the Mumbai Indians' first match against Gujarat Titans on March 24. The T20 star, who lead India in the T20I series against South Africa last December, before undergoing ankle surgery, shared a post on his social media account that displayed a heartbreak. The severity of his condition can be assessed from his social media post. Mumbai camp optimistic about his joining This will certainly come as a big blow for the Mumbai Indians franchise if the star batter, who is a T20 specialist, gets ruled out of the marquee event. But hope within the Mumbai camp is high that he should join the team sooner or later. Although, Suryakumar's participation for the opening game is under doubt, but there is a strong belief that he will be available for the next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which is three days later. After the South Africa T20I series, he was ruled out of the homes series against Afghanistan in January and could not also feature in the DY Patil T20 tournament. He successfully underwent a hernia surgery in January this year and is currently at the NCA undergoing his rehabilitation program and awaiting the green signal.
