Kagiso Rabada breaks Jacques Kallis' record to become South Africa's 6th highest Test wicket-taker

South Africa speedster Kagiso Rabada added another record to his name when he surpassed the legendary allrounder Jacques Kallis during the match between West Indies and South Africa at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.

Kagiso Rabada had a brilliant day with the ball as he picked up 3-56 in 18 overs. On a pitch that wasn't offering much for the fast bowlers, Kagiso Rabada kept persisting by bowling to a particular plan and tested the West Indies batters. He got the big wicket of Kavem Hodge and then helped clean up the tail by removing Gudakesh Motie and Kemar Roach.

Kagiso Rabada becomes 6th leading wicket-taker for South Africa in Test cricket

When Kagiso Rabada dismissed Gudakesh Motie for his second wicket of the match, he took his tally to 293 wickets in Test cricket. With this wicket, he surpassed Jacques Kallis' tally of 292 wickets to become the 6th most successful bowler for South Africa in Tests.

Kagiso Rabada achieved this feat in just the 63rd Test match. The 29-year-old is currently the leader of South Africa's bowling attack and is a premier wicket-taker for Proteas in every format.

Jacques Kallis is regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders ever to have played the game. The legendary cricketer played 166 Tests for South Africa and picked up 292 wickets for South Africa at an average of 32.65. Jacques Kallis picked up 5 five-wicket hauls in his Test career.

Along with picking up wickets, Jacques Kallis is also the highest run-scorer for South Africa with over 13000 runs to his name in the red-ball format. He is also the top run-scorer for Proteas in ODI cricket.

South Africa's leading-wicket takers in Tests

Former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn is currently the highest wicket-taker for South Africa in Test cricket with 439 wickets in 93 Tests at an average of 22.95. Steyn is followed by Shaun Pollock, who picked up 421 wickets in 108 Tests at an average of 23.11.

Makhaya Ntini is in third spot in this list with 390 wickets in 101 Tests at an average of 28.82. Ntini is followed by Allan Donald, who is fourth on this list with 330 wickets in 72 Tests at an average of 22.25. Steyn's long-time bowling partner is fifth with 309 wickets in 86 Tests at an average of 27.66.

South Africa tighten their grip in the Test

Riding on Kagiso Rabada's three-wicket haul and a marathon bowling spell by the left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj, South Africa bowled out West Indies for just 233 runs in their first innings, thus taking a lead of 124 runs. South Africa scored 30-0 in their second innings at Stumps on Day 4 with both the openers looking good at the crease.

With just one day remaining in the match due to persistent rain throughout, it will be a tough task to force a result. However, South Africa will try to score runs quickly and declare in order to have any chance of collecting any points for the World Test Championship.
