The petition against the disqualification of Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat in the Paris Olympics will be heard today. She had filed an appeal in the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), which was accepted for hearing. In this, Vinesh has demanded a joint silver medal. Senior advocate Harish Salve will represent Vinesh Phogat in the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) today at 1 pm IST.

In fact, Vinesh Phogat appealed to CAS on Wednesday against her disqualification from the 50kg category final of women's wrestling at the Paris Olympics and demanded that she be given a joint silver medal.

CAS will hear the case

Let us tell you that the CAS department has been set up here to resolve any dispute arising during the Olympic Games or in the 10 days before the opening ceremony. Cuban wrestler Yusnelis Guzman Lopez, who lost to Vinesh in the semi-finals, has taken her place in the final. The hearing was to be held in CAS on Thursday. But the Indian team had also sought time to appoint an Indian lawyer for the hearing. On this, the court had postponed the hearing till Friday i.e. today.

Now, according to the information, former Solicitor General of India and King's Counsel Harish Salve will appear before CAS on behalf of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in this case. It is being told that the decision can come today itself. But if the court feels that further hearing is needed in this case, then it can give the next date. However, in most cases the decision comes on the same day.

What is CAS?

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is an independent organization created for sports around the world. Its job is to end legal disputes related to sports. It was established in the year 1984. Its headquarters is located in Lausanne, Switzerland. Its courts are in New York, Sydney and Lausanne. Temporary courts are also set up in current Olympic cities. In this episode, CAS is established in Paris this time, where the Vinesh Phogat case is to be heard.

What is the controversy surrounding Vinesh Phogat?

In fact, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified just hours before the final match of the 50 kg freestyle wrestling category. The allegation was that Vinesh's weight was found to be about 100 grams more. Due to the rule, she missed the gold medal even after winning the semi-finals. However, Vinesh objected to this decision and demanded a joint silver medal. Now after the matter went to CAS, there is hope of Vinesh Phogat getting a medal.
