The Sri Lanka cricket team, led by Charith Asalanka, defeated India by a huge margin of 110 runs in the third and final T20 International played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday (7 August). With this, the Sri Lankan team won the series 2-0.

This is the first time since 1997 that Sri Lanka has defeated India in a bilateral ODI series. Before Asalanka, in the 42-year ODI history of both teams, Sri Lanka had defeated India in a bilateral ODI series only under the captaincy of Arjuna Ranatunga. Under the captaincy of Ranatunga, Sri Lanka won both the series on its own soil.

After deciding to bat first, Sri Lanka scored 248 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. In which Avishka Fernando scored 96 runs, Kusal Mendis scored 59 runs and Pathum Nissanka scored 45 runs. In bowling for India, Riyan Parag took the maximum of 3 wickets, Kuldeep, Mohammad Siraj, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar took 1-1 wickets.

In response, the Indian team was all out for 138 runs in 26.1 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma scored the highest 35 runs, apart from this, Washington Sundar played an innings of 30 runs in the lower order. Player of the series for Sri Lanka, Dunith Wellalage took 5 wickets, Mahish Theekshana and Jeffrey Vandersay took 2-2 wickets and Asitha Fernando took 1 wicket.

Avishka Fernando was selected as the Player of the Match for his brilliant innings. While Dunith Vellalaage was selected as the Player of the Match. He scored 108 runs in 3 innings and took 7 wickets in bowling.
