Sarfaraz Khan also got the nod as senior stars Ajinkya Rahane and Shams Mulani are away for other commitments. Rahane led Mumbai to their 42nd Ranji Trophy title in the 2023-24 season with Mulani as the vice-captain. The former Indian captain is playing for Leicestershire in the One Day Limited Over Tournament while Mulani is at Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy (NCA).
