Hardly anyone would have thought that the Indian team, which is in excellent form, will have to struggle to win the ODI series against Sri Lanka. That too when the star players of Team India have returned, while Sri Lanka is struggling with injuries to some of its players. But this happened and Team India missed the victory in the very first match. In the first ODI match played in Colombo, the Indian team missed the chance to win and the match ended in a tie. Although the Indian batsmen failed to score the last 1 run, but in reality the mistake of 10 runs proved costly for Team India.

Young Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Vellalaage, who was the hero of this match, revealed this.

India had a chance

An exciting contest was witnessed in the first match of the ODI series played on Friday 2nd August at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Sri Lanka batted first but the team could only reach 230 runs. It seemed that Team India's victory would be easy but this did not happen and the Indian team collapsed at 230 runs within 48 overs. Team India needed 1 run in 15 balls and it had 2 wickets left but with the fall of 2 wickets in a row, the victory slipped out of hand.

Now questions are being raised on the last batsman Arshdeep Singh that why did he try to hit a big shot instead of playing comfortably and taking 1 run, but the real reason for Team India not being able to win is something else. What Sri Lanka's spin-allrounder Vellalage revealed after the match shows that Team India had already made a big mistake. Actually, Team India had taken 5 wickets of Sri Lanka for just 101 runs. Despite this, Sri Lanka scored 230 runs and the main reason for this was Vellalage.

These 10 runs proved costly for Team India

The young player told after the match that while batting he had come to know that the pitch was slow and so when he was batting with Wanindu Hasaranga, his target was to reach 220 runs somehow.

Team India had a chance to stop Sri Lanka and it had also lost 7 wickets for 178 runs but here the Indian bowlers could not finish the Sri Lankan innings and Vellalaage took the team to 230 runs with a brilliant innings of 67 runs, which was enough to stop India from winning in the end. Vellalaage not only scored the most runs for Sri Lanka but also put India in trouble by taking the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.
