India captain Rohit Sharma urged the players to move on from the 2024 T20 World Cup success in the West Indies and the United States of America. Rohit felt it was time to concentrate on the upcoming tournaments.

The Men in Blue remained unbeaten throughout the World Cup. Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced retirement after lifting the trophy.

India defeated Zimbabwe 4-1 and thumped Sri Lanka 3-0 in the next two T20I series.a

“I took a break after winning the World Cup. It was a great feeling to be among our fans in India after lifting the trophy.

But we have to move on and we can’t stay in the past. The celebrations were for that particular period. Time doesn’t stop and and we also need to keep moving forward,” Rohit Sharma said ahead of the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Suryakumar Yadav was made India’s T20I captain after Rohit retired from the shortest format. However, Rohit will continue to lead the team in one-day internationals and Test cricket.

Rohit Sharma felt winning or losing a match is not bad if the players maintain high standards. The sub-continent nation has been found wanting in the fifty-over format.

India have failed to win the ODI World Cup despite coming close in several editions.

“Indian cricket is more important. If you lose a match, it is fine. You are allowed to concede a contest if you don’t compromise on the standard. There is no problem in losing while trying out something different.”
