Chennai Super Kings have no information about the future of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the Indian Premier League. The questions over Dhoni’s future with the five-time champions have been hogging the limelight. CSK played with a new captain for the first time in the previous season. Dhoni left the captaincy and told Ruturaj Gaikwad to lead the team.

The Super Kings have requested the decision-makers to implement an old rule which would allow franchise to retain Dhoni as an uncapped player.

According to ESPNCricinfo, Chennai urged the BCCI to reintroduce a rule that was in place until 2021. It allows international cricketers to compete as uncapped players if they have been retired for over five years.a

Ahead of the 2022 mega auction, teams were permitted to retain four players. Many franchises have demanded an increase in the number of the players a team can retain. If CSK get permission to retain Dhoni as an uncapped, it would help the franchise to strengthen their squad.

Mahi retired from international cricket in August 2020.

However, Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kavya Maran was not in favour of CSK’s argument. According to her, it would disrespect Dhoni and his market value.

Even other franchises agreed to what Kavya said and urged the BCCI to refrain from making any changes.
