Whether MS Dhoni will play in IPL 2025 or not is a big question. However, Chennai Super Kings seems to be in the mood to field this legendary player in the next season as well. The proof of this is the demand made by Chennai Super Kings in the meeting of the owners of all the IPL teams in Mumbai. According to media reports, Chennai Super Kings has demanded the re-implementation of the rule made 16 years ago to retain Dhoni in the IPL meeting and other teams have opposed it. Now understand what happened in that meeting?
According to ESPNcricinfo report, Chennai Super Kings said in the IPL meeting that the rule made in 2008 should be implemented again, in which if a player has been retired for five years, then he was considered an uncapped player. There is a report that in IPL 2025, teams may get the freedom to retain uncapped players in addition to international players, this is the reason why Chennai has made such a demand. Dhoni is also going to complete five years of retirement, so in such a situation Chennai can retain him in their team as an uncapped player, but Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kavya Maran has strongly opposed this.
Kavya Maran opposed this proposal of Chennai Super Kings. Maran said that if a retired player is retained as an uncapped player, it would be an insult to that player. Maran said that instead of making retired players uncapped players, they should be allowed to come in the IPL auction. That player must get his right price in the market. The matter of IPL retention is becoming interesting, now the question is what decision will the Governing Council take on this issue?
