A big news has come out for Indian cricket fans.

India is going to host the Asia Cup 2025 next year and this tournament will be played in T20 format, while the tournament will be played in 50 overs format in Bangladesh in 2027.

According to the Invitation for Expression of Interest for Sponsorship Rights document released by the Asian Cricket Council, the tournament will have a total of 13 matches featuring six teams – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan – with the sixth team selected through a qualifying event.

While the dates of the event are yet to be finalised, ACC sources have indicated that it could be held sometime in September after the monsoon season ends in the country.

According to the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Future Tours Programme (FTP) 2023-27, India have a very busy calendar next year with a limited-overs series against England in January-February, followed by the Champions Trophy in February-March.

After the IPL is over, the team will tour England from June to August and then travel to Bangladesh to play three ODIs and as many T20Is.

This is why the Asia Cup is expected to be held after the Bangladesh series and before the two-match Test series against the West Indies in October. However, BCCI sources clarified that no decision has been taken yet about the potential venues. While there will be no men's Asian tournament in 2026, the Women's Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format that year, followed by the men's Under-19 and Emerging Teams Asia Cup tournaments.

Last year, the Asia Cup was played in a hybrid model, with Pakistan hosting some of its matches while India played all its matches in Sri Lanka. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India won the title by defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
