Arshdeep Singh, who has 111 wickets in 96 IPL games, is moving to Mumbai Indians. Hardik Pandya goes the other way to Punjab Kings in the same IPL 2027 trade.
The swap is not done yet. It requires ratification from the BCCI before it is officially confirmed, and it lands just a month before the mini-auction in Goa on December 16.
Mumbai’s side of the deal is easy to sell. Arshdeep joins Jasprit Bumrah to form a pace attack built for the powerplay and the death overs. He also fills a left-arm pacer slot Mumbai have chased for years, and with Trent Boult, 37, in doubt for IPL 2027, the timing fits.
The fans reacted to the deal.
“Bumrah and Arsh bowling the opening spell,” one of the fans wrote.
“Finally a good trade by MI,” another fan wrote.
Punjab’s end carries the risk. Pandya is recovering from a right shin bone stress response, along with earlier back spasms and a leg strain from IPL 2026, and he has not played any game at any level since the last IPL season. At Punjab, he will play under Shreyas Iyer.
His Mumbai record is the other half of the argument. He returned to the franchise in 2024 as captain, replacing Rohit Sharma, and the five-time champions failed to qualify for the playoffs twice in the three seasons since.
The thread did not write him off.
“Both of them are quality players. Anyone gets in form during IPL, and people will be clowning the other franchise,” a fan mentioned.
“I mean that bowling combo of MI is drool-worthy. But with Hardik, they can have Stoinis on the bench and can get an overseas pacer. Right now it favors MI, but if Hardik can make any team look good.”
Arshdeep also gives Mumbai overseas slot flexibility, letting them stack an extra foreign batter or all-rounder, which is the part fans keep returning to.
“It’s not about player-to-player comparison. It’s about team combination.”
Mumbai are not standing still elsewhere. Rohit Sharma is set to return as captain, with official word awaited, and Kieron Pollard has replaced Mahela Jayawardene as head coach. Robin Uthappa takes over as batting coach and Mitchell McClenaghan as bowling coach.
A fit Arshdeep alongside Bumrah makes the trade read as a win. A fit and firing Pandya at Punjab flips the argument the other way.
