Daryl Mitchell has rewritten the record books with another milestone against India, becoming the New Zealand batter with the most ODI runs against the Men in Blue in a calendar year.
The right-hander achieved the feat during the second ODI of the ongoing series at Wellington's Hnry Stadium on Saturday, November 7, moving past former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns ' long-standing record.
Mitchell needed 24 runs to surpass Cairns' tally of 403 runs, accumulated across 11 ODIs in 1999. He reached the landmark by scoring his 24th run off the fifth delivery of the 19th over.
The 2026 campaign has been particularly productive for Mitchell against India. He had already made 84, 131 not out and 137 during the three-match ODI series between the two sides in January. He also scored 28 in the opening match of the ongoing five-match series in Auckland on November 4.
With 435 runs to his name in just five ODIs against India in 2026, Mitchell has moved to the top of New Zealand's list for the most ODI runs against India in a calendar year. Cairns now occupies the second position, followed by Kane Williamson (361) and Ross Taylor (343).

Dilshan holds overall record against IndiaWhile Mitchell has taken the New Zealand record, the overall benchmark for the most ODI runs against India in a calendar year remains with former Sri Lanka captain Tillakaratne Dilshan .
Dilshan amassed 592 runs in 12 matches against India in 2009, a record that continues to stand. West Indies great Chris Gayle occupies second place with 558 runs from 10 matches in 2002, while former England opener Marcus Trescothick is third with 545 runs from 11 innings in the same year.
Australia's Usman Khawaja is fourth with 539 runs in 2019, while West Indies legends Gordon Greenidge and Vivian Richards occupy the fifth and sixth positions with 533 and 532 runs respectively.
