India's star badminton player PV Sindhu has made a great start in the Paris Olympics 2024. She has taken a step towards winning her third consecutive medal in the Olympics. On Sunday, July 28, she faced Maldives badminton player Fathimath Nabaha Abdul Razzaq, whom she defeated.
Sindhu defeated Fatimath 21-09 in the first game and 21-06 in the second game. Maldives' Fatimath is ranked 111th in the world rankings. It was already believed that Sindhu would be able to defeat her, because they had faced each other earlier as well, in which Sindhu had won.
Earlier, PV Sindhu and Fathimath Nabaha faced each other in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. In that match, Sindhu defeated her by a huge margin of 21-4 and 21-11. Fathimath Nabaha of Maldives was playing her second Olympics.
If Sindhu manages to reach the podium in this Olympics, she can achieve a hat-trick of medals and by doing so she will become the first Indian player to win a medal three times in a row in the Olympics. Earlier, she had won a silver medal in the Rio Olympics and a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics.
29-year-old Sindhu has been in form for quite some time now and is playing well. However, it is believed that Sindhu may face Carolina Maran in the semi-finals, who is a veteran player and Sindhu's record against Maran has not been very good.
