Mumbai Indians (MI) have quashed speculation about Suryakumar Yadav joining other teams in the trade talks. The five-time champions see the star batsman as an invaluable asset to their long term plans. Amid much speculation that Suryakumar was moving to another team, the five-time champions are seeing him as a key player.
Speaking about the reports that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were looking to move Suryakumar, possibly as he could be a captaincy option after their split with Rishabh Pant, a senior MI source told Cricbuzz, “SKY is not for trade. There will be no discussions on it.”
Proven performer despite poor campaign in IPL 2026
Despite scoring only 270 runs in 13 games of IPL 2026, a stark drop from his 717 runs in 2025, MI are looking at the bigger picture:
Surya has played an important role in MI's two consecutive wins in 2019 and 2020 after he retained the team ahead of IPL 2026 at a cost of ₹16.35 crore. He has over 4500 runs in the IPL.
Surya has also brought great experience to MI's dressing room as the Indian T20I Captain. His experience of winning games in the middle order makes him a valuable leader.
