Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli is celebrating his 38th birthday on Thursday. The batter was the top scorer for his side against New Zealand in the first ODI played on Wednesday in Auckland. He scored 74 off 51 balls, with the help of 13 fours and a six. He became the first batter to amass 13,000 runs at number three in ODI cricket.

On the occasion of Virat’s birthday, Star Sports uploaded a short video on their social media handle where they played the ‘winner stays on’ gameregarding his greatest ODI knocks. The first question pitted his 35 against Sri Lanka in the 2011 ODI World Cup final against his 133 not out in Hobart against the same opposition.

Kohli, without skipping a beat, picked his 35. Chasing 275 to win, India lost Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag and were at 31/2 in the seventh over. Virat joined current head coach Gautam Gambhir and the pair added 79 runs for the third wicket in 93 balls, helping India get their chase back on track.

Surprisingly, the 35 off 49 balls wasn’t the best knock according to the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper. When asked to compare that knock with the 43 he scored against England in the 2013 Champions Trophy final, the veteran batter chose the latter.

India’s batting icon was asked to compare his 43 to the 183 he accumulated against Pakistan during the 2012 Asia Cup. Virat stuck with his contribution against England, terming it the best knock of his fifty-over career.

MS Dhoni’s side was asked to bat first in a rain-shortened game of 20 overs per side. Batting at number three, Kohli scored 43 off 34 balls with the help of four boundaries and a six.

Ravindra Jadeja (33) and Shikhar Dhawan’s 31 ensured the Indians reached a competitive total of 129 and won the game by five runs.
