A video of a warm exchange between Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli on the team bus has gone viral on social media. The clip captures the moment between the two legends of Indian cricket as Kohli celebrates his 38th birthday on Thursday (November 5).
Gambhir was sitting next to the window seat while Kohli was standing in the aisle. He was wearing the team’s training gear, a cap and headphones. The right-handed batter was engaged in a discussion with the head of the support staff.
Kohli was making hand gestures while speaking to Gambhir, who was seen listening to the former captain and chuckling in response.
The players and the members of the coaching staff were watching the two and enjoying the lighthearted conversation between them.
The footage shows the rapport between Virat and Gambhir, who were competitors on the field in the Indian Premier League. Both batters have also shared the dressing room for years, representing Delhi in domestic cricket and India in international matches.
Kohli is still active in cricket and is scoring runs consistently in one-day internationals. On the other hand, Gambhir is coaching the team across formats.
India defeated New Zealand by 5 wickets in the series opener at Eden Park. The Kiwis were bowled out for 185 in 40.2 overs, with Arshdeep Singh taking four wickets. He was supported by Gurnoor Brar’s three wickets. Anshul Kamboj was named the Player of the Match for his two wickets/
Chasing a revised DLS target of 143, Virat Kohli scored 74 off 51 balls, with the help of 13 fours and a six. He shared a 113-run stand with captain Shubman Gill, who posted 37. Despite losing a few wickets, the visitors reached the target in 22.4 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the ongoing bilateral assignment.
India will look to dominate the hosts in the second ODI on November 7 in Wellington.
