Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya is set to be traded to Punjab Kings (PBKS) ahead of the IPL 2027 retention deadline on November 17, a media report said on Tuesday (November 3).
According to a report in Sports starsPBKS has “advanced considerably” in its negotiations with MI. The trade involves PBKS sending their key pace bowler Arshdeep Sing and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod to MI.
The senior management of the two franchises have all but agreed on the proposed exchange, with the documentation expected to be processed by IPL officials.
An official announcement is likely later this week, the report added. Also read: Abhishek Sharma responds to Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball 50 challenge
All-rounder Hardik moved from Gujarat Titans (GT) to Mumbai in an all-cash deal before the IPL 2024. Since then, Hardik has led Mumbai in three seasons but limited success. With GT, Hardik led the franchise to IPL 2022 title.
Prior to playing for GT, Hardik began his IPL career at MI, and spent seven years (2015 to 2021) there and won four titles (2015, 2017, 2019, 2020).
Currently, Hardik is out of cricketing action due to injury issues.
Meanwhile, India ODI captain Shubman Gill praised Hardik as he spoke to reporters in Auckland ahead of the first ODI against New Zealand.
“Firstly, I think he (Pandya) is a great player. The qualities he brings to the team are possessed by very few players in the world. Having a fast-bowling all-rounder who can bowl in every phase of the game, with the new ball, in the middle overs and at the death, along with the kind of batting he offers, is extremely valuable. It has been very unfortunate that he hasn’t been able to play since the IPL,” Gill said.
Gill said that he is in touch with the 32-year-old and expects him to play a few domestic games before donning the India blues again.
“Yes, we have had multiple conversations. He was supposed to play the India A matches, but just before that, he had some niggles again. Hopefully, he will be fit soon, play some domestic cricket, and then we will see him back in the side,” Gill added.
