The second unofficial Test match between New Zealand A and India A ended in a tame draw on Tuesday morning in Christchurch. The biggest highlight of the day was Yashasvi Jaiswal’s unbeaten ton in the second innings. The 24-year-old had scored 22 runs in the previous three innings. It also included a duck in the first innings of the recently concluded game.

India A had ended day three with their score reading 32 for no loss from 11 overs. Jaiswal was batting on 20 along with Sai Sudharsanwho was on 11. The start of day four was marred by rain, and when play finally got underway, Sudharsan was out without adding any runs to his overnight score.

Brett Randall gave NZ A their second wicket when he castled Devdutt Padikkal for a golden duck. At that stage, Indians were placed at 35/2, still trailing by 41 runs. That’s when Yash Rathod came to the crease and added 247 unbroken runs for the third wicket with Yashasvi. Jaiswal reached his fifty off 68 balls and took another 51 balls to reach his century.

It was a welcome sight for Indian fans as the southpaw is a key member of the Test side. Rajasthan Royals star then went on the offensive and smashed the Kiwi bowlers to all parts of the ground. He took another 35 balls to go past the 150-run mark before the game was called off. He posted an unbeaten 155 off 162 balls, laced with 15 fours and 5 sixes.

Rathod has been one of the best batters for India A on this tour, scoring 223 runs with one century and a fifty. 26-year-old was busy from the time he came to the wicket and took 63 balls to reach his fifty. The batter then upped the ante and got to his ton off 122 balls with nine hits to the fence.

Indian bowling still has concerns to address

Having been bowled out for 346 in their first innings, IND A side had the visitors in trouble at 13/3 inside the first eight overs. Matthew Boyle and Dean Foxcroft then added 208 runs for the fourth wicket. The visiting side took key wickets to reduce New Zealand A to 271/7.

India A were unable to dislodge the lower-order, which saw the hosts reach 424 runs and take a lead of 76.

veteran pacer Mohammed Siraj ended up with figures of 4/118 from his 35 overs, while Mukesh Kumar took 5/87 from his 29 overs.
