Durban's Super Giants has roped in New Zealand's star batter Kane Williamson and England all-rounder Chris Woakes ahead of the upcoming SA20 2025, which will be staged at the start of next year.
Williamson was not included in the New Zealand Cricket central contract earlier this year to be able to play in various leagues across the world, and the seasoned batter has landed his first contract to feature for Durban's Super Giants next season. After signing for DSG, Williamson said in a statement released by the franchise, "Really excited to be a part of the SA20 this season with Durban's Super Giants. Looking forward to meeting Keshav, Lance, and the boys, and playing in front of a packed house at Kingsmead. Can't wait!"
Although Williamson is not renowned for playing quick-fire cameos and power-hitting strokes, his short format record is equally impressive. The stylish right-hander has played 93 T20I matches and scored 2,575 runs at an average of 33.44 with a strike rate of 123.08. Williamson, who has featured in the Indian Premier League earlier, is also the Black Caps' second-highest run scorer ever across all formats, with 18128 runs in 358 matches under his belt. The 33-year-old has played 100 Test matches, amassing 8743 runs at an average of 54.98. In ODIs, the experienced batter has made 165 appearances and racked up 6810 runs at an average of 48.64. Woakes, on the other hand, has been a crucial figure for England in limited-overs cricket. He played a key role in England's 2019 World Cup triumph and was also part of the Three Lions' T20 World Cup-winning squad, although the seasoned all-rounder didn't feature in a single match. The 35-year-old Woakes, who is known primarlily for his bowling, has played in 33 T20Is, scoring 147 runs and picking up 31 wicket. Overall in T20s, Woakes has played 162 matches for 172 wickets and 1021 runs. Both international stars will bring a lot of experience to the Durban's Super Giants, who will want to improve on their runners up finish from last season as the duo will join several top stars from South Africa including, Heinrich Klaasen and Quinton de Kock.
