The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2027 mini-auction will give franchises the chance to cover any gaps that may lie in their playing squad. One of the overseas players who may prove to be a hot topic of conversation is Australian all-rounder Grace Harris, who brings much-needed versatility to any team with her blistering batting and handy off-spin.
Harris has become a go-to player for the WPL with her attacking style of play. She has the ability to get runs on the board quickly, hit the ball to the boundary and provide some bowling. This could make the Australian an interesting pick at the auction as franchises look to see what they have left in their purse and what overseas players they have.
1. UP Warriors
UP Warriorz could be one of the franchises interested in bringing Harris back for the 2027 season. After finishing at the bottom of the pile last time out, the team saw 9 players leave the squad. They still have INR 3.75 crore to spend on players that can make an impact right away.
With all their overseas players departing, including Deandra Dottin and Chloe Tryon, they now have a chance to change their overseas mix. Harris can make an ideal impact in the middle order, and her power-hitting abilities would be a great asset.
She will know the franchise and WPL well, having scored 818 runs in the competition so far with a blistering strike rate of 149.54. This shows that she can score quickly, putting pressure on the opposition bowlers. She can also bowl off-spin, meaning the team has options with their bowling attack.
Bringing in an experienced player who knows what it takes to succeed in the tournament would be a smart move.
2. Gujarat Giants
Gujarat Giants could be interested in bringing in Harris. With some experienced players in Beth Mooney and Ashleigh Gardner, another attacking all-rounder could make a great addition.
Her main selling point is her ability to speed up the scoring rate. She can hit the ball hard to keep the Giants moving through the middle overs. Having another boundary hitter would be a great addition.
She would also give the team another all-round player. Although her batting would be the main drawcard, she can bowl off spin, meaning the captain will have another option.
They have a big budget to play with as they have INR 1.25 crore left to spend. Whilst they won't have as much flexibility as some of their rivals, if they are looking for an overseas batter who can also contribute with the ball, then she could be a target.
3. Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals could also get involved in the race for Harris. With Lizelle Lee leaving the team, they could have space in their overseas batting department.
Adding Harris would give them an attacking player. She can attack pace and spin meaning she would be a great option to change the momentum of the innings. She will also know what it takes to be successful in the WPL due to her experience.
Her all-round ability would be a great asset to the team. She can bat and bowl off spin, meaning the team will have more flexibility.
They only have INR 1.10 crore left to spend so they may not have as much flexibility if there is a lot of competition for her. They will have to think about what they want to target but if they are looking for an overseas all-rounder, then she could be a good option.
If they are looking to bring in an experienced player to add to their batting and give them another bowling option, then she could be a good choice.
Grace Harris brings a lot of qualities that T20 franchises love. She is an attacking batter, an all-rounder and has experience in the competition. Her record in the WPL shows that she can score quickly and her off-spin gives teams extra options.
UP Warriorz could have a good reason to bring her back after changing their squad. Gujarat Giants and Delhi Capitals could see her as an overseas option to bring in. How much they are interested will depend on what they need in their squad, auction plans and how much competition there is.
Her name could be one to watch at the WPL 2027 mini auction. If the Australian all-rounder becomes available at a price that fits within their budget, she could be a great value pick for a team looking to strengthen their T20 campaign.
