The 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup is slated to be hosted by Pakistan from September 7th to October 1st. According to various reports, theInternational Cricket Council has yet to decide where India will play since they intend to follow the hybrid model. Considering the volatile relationship between the nations, India hasn’t toured Pakistan since 2008.
As per reports, asource from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants assurance from the ICC that the hybrid model used during the Champions Trophy 2025 tournament would be replicated in 2028 as well. Pakistan had played two home games and had travelled to Dubai for the huge clash against India.
Rohit Sharma’s side played their three games, as well as the semi-final and final in Dubai, and went on to win the tournament. “Pakistan would love to host matches from both groups and the knockout games in which India is not involved,” a source said.
“United Arab Emirates will probably be the venue since the travel time between Pakistan and Dubai is less and the logistics also become less expensive and easier to manage.”
Hosting an ICC event in Pakistan will be a huge boost for the board’s finances. PCB is also exploring the idea of starting the PSL Sixes tournament, which is along the lines of the Hong Kong Sixes tournament.
For the first time, the hybrid model was used in 2023, when Pakistan were named hosts of the Men’s Asia Cup. The Men in Blue played all their games in Sri Lanka, which also included the final against the hosts.
The same year, Babar Azam‘s side toured India for the 2023 ODI World Cup and played the hosts in Ahmedabad. The Men in Green had initially decided to boycott the 2026 T20 World Cup after Bangladesh were ejected from the event and replaced by Scotland.
Salman Agha‘s team played all their games in Sri Lanka, including the massive clash against India, which they lost by 61 runs. Speaking about the Women’s T20 World Cup, England hosted the event in 2026, which the Australians went on to win with ease. India and Pakistan were eliminated from the group stage.
