Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh saw his name enter the history books when he dismissed Tim Seifert for seven runs. The Kiwi batter went for a wild slog and only managed to give Tilak Varma an easy catch as the visiting side got the first wicket.
This was the 38th T20I wicket in a calendar year for Singh, having gone past the previous record of 37 wickets by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in 2022. The left-arm seamer also got one more wicket towards the end of the innings to take his tally to 39 wickets for the year.
Punjab Kings star got to the mark in just 29 games compared to Kumar’s 37 scalps from 32 games. Arshdeep also picked up 36 wickets in 2024, which came off mere 18 games, and fell agonizingly short of going past the record.
Veteran spinner Varun Chakraborty also features in the list, having taken 36 wickets in 2025. The 35-year-old is part of the Indian side in the current tour, but is yet to get any game time.
Singh, in fact, features three times in the list, with 33 wickets during his debut year in 2022. The pacer is also on the cusp of becoming the first Indian bowler to take 150 wickets in T20Is.
2026 has been amazing for the left-arm pacer, who began with eight wickets against the Kiwis earlier this year. He also recorded his best of 5/51 during the same series. He picked up nine wickets from eight games in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Arshdeep claimed eight wickets during their tour of Ireland and England and then followed it up with ten scalps against Afghanistan and West Indies.
Arshdeep Singh – 148 wickets
Jasprit Bumrah – 126 wickets
Axar Patel – 114 wickets
Hardik Pandya – 114 wickets
Kuldeep Yadav – 98 wickets
