Punjab Kings team is going to make a big change before IPL 2025. According to the latest media reports, Wasim Jaffer can become the new head coach of Punjab.

Before the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL 2025, the Punjab Kings team has made a big change. After the two-year tenure of Punjab Kings head coach Trevor Bayliss ended, the Punjab team was looking for a new head coach but now that search is over. Yes, Wasim Jaffer will be the next head coach of Punjab Kings, who will replace Trevor Bayliss.

According to the Indian Express report, the former India opener is set to return to the Mohali-based franchise ahead of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This will be Jaffer's third stint with Punjab Kings. Ahead of IPL 2024, Jaffer was relieved of the role of batting consultant.

Jaffer was the batting coach of Punjab Kings between 2019-2021, but resigned from his role ahead of the IPL 2022 auction. However, he will be back in the Punjab dugout again for the upcoming season. This time Jaffer's role will be even more important as he will be seen in the position of head coach.

However, it will be a tough task for Jaffer as the Punjab team has failed to make it to the playoffs for ten consecutive seasons since the IPL 2014 edition. In IPL 2024, Punjab Kings finished ninth in the points table. They managed only five wins in the tournament. Interestingly, the evergreen underachievers of the IPL were at times good and at times bad throughout the tournament. On one hand, they registered the highest successful run chase in T20 cricket where they chased down 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens and defeated five-time champions Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk, but still failed to find the rhythm.

Skipper Shikhar Dhawan's injury also played a major role in the team's poor performance and it will be interesting to see if they continue with the left-handed batsman, who will turn 39 later this year.
