Australian umpire Ben Treloar is to umpire two matches in the 2026–27 Ranji Trophy season as a part of an umpire exchange program between Cricket Australia and the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The Indian cricket board will see the on-field duties of Parashar Joshi as he goes to Australia to umpire two Sheffield Shield fixtures and one One-Day Cup match.
The umpire has traveled to India for the Ranji Trophy fixture between Delhi and Gujarat, which commenced on October 18. His next assignment will be the match between Mumbai and Haryana, which is scheduled to begin on October 26. Meanwhile, Joshi will have three assignments in Australia in November to cover both first-class and limited-overs cricket.
Joshi's Australian tour will begin with Queensland's Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania at the Gabba, from November 11 to 14. He will then officiate in a One-Day Cup fixture on November 16 before completing his stint with the Sheffield Shield encounter between New South Wales and Queensland at the Sydney Cricket Ground, from November 22 to 25.
The exchange program gives both officials a chance to acquire experience in their respective domestic cricket environments. Furthermore, it also demonstrates the collaboration between Cricket Australia and the BCCI in facilitating the professionals' growth and knowledge-sharing.
With experience in both of Australia's domestic cricket competitions, Treloar has officiated in first-class cricket, List A matches and the Big Bash League (BBL). While performing on-field umpiring duties, he works as Cricket New South Wales' Umpire Education Officer, mentoring and assisting new umpires.
According to the supplied career statistics, Treloar has officiated in 30 first-class matches, 20 List A games and 39 BBL fixtures. Furthermore, he has experience in international women's cricket with two Women's ODIs and four Women's T20Is to his name.
His appointment to the Ranji Trophy is an opportunity to bring that experience to India's premier domestic first-class competition while acquiring more exposure to the country's cricketing conditions and playing environment.
Since 2015, Parashar Joshi has been part of the BCCI's umpire panel and has had the opportunity to officiate in India's domestic red-ball and white-ball competitions. His selection for the exchange program will give him the opportunity to officiate in Australia's established domestic tournaments, including the Sheffield Shield and One-Day Cup.
Interestingly, Joshi also has a background in music. Before pursuing a professional career in umpiring, he reached the piano rounds of Indian Idol 4 in 2008, adding an unusual dimension to his journey in cricket.
As per the supplied statistics, Joshi has officiated in nine first-class matches, 24 List A fixtures and 30 T20 matches. His three Australian assignments will provide more exposure to different formats and conditions.
The exchange program unites two officials with experience in their respective domestic systems. With Treloar taking charge of Ranji Trophy fixtures and Joshi preparing for matches in Australia, the initiative will provide both umpires with valuable exposure outside their domestic circuits.
