Ramesh Powar in selection panel; Pragyan Ojha new chief
MUMBAI: Former India off-spinner Ramesh Powar was appointed to the men’s selection committee on Monday, with former India left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha taking over as its chairperson. Powar replaces former India pacer Ajit Agarkar , who headed the panel.
Ojha, who played 24 Tests, will lead the committee on the basis of seniority. He had already been serving as interim chairman when squads across formats were picked for the upcoming New Zealand tour. According to a BCCI source, Ojha left for New Zealand with the Indian team on Monday for the tour, which comprises five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests.
Powar was selected unanimously by the BCCI’s two-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising former India cricketers Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape, after interviews with seven candidates at the board’s headquarters here.
The CAC also interviewed candidates for five positions on the junior selection committee. “We will announce the new junior selection committee in a day or two,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told TOI.
Ojha has been a member of the senior selection committee since Sept 2025, alongside Shiv Sunder Das, RP Singh and Ajay Ratra.
Powar, 48, played two Tests and 31 ODIs between 2004 and 2007.
