Australia will enter the second Test of their 2026 South Africa tour at St George’s Park in Gqeberha with a 1–0 advantage in the series, having secured an emphatic 214-run win in the opening encounter in Durban. Pat Cummins and his men will be eager to maintain their momentum, while South Africa will be determined to bounce back on home soil and keep the series alive.

In an effort to recover from their disappointing performance in Durban, the Proteas are preparing to make several changes to their lineup.

Tristan Stubbs has been left out, with Ryan Rickelton expected to assume wicketkeeping duties, while fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is likely to return and strengthen the pace attack. South Africa will rely heavily on experienced batters such as Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma to withstand Australia’s early bowling pressure and help establish a solid first-innings platform.

Australia, meanwhile, have looked formidable across departments, with their pace battery featuring Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Cummins, supported by Nathan Lyon‘s control and experience in the spin department.

The visitors are also keeping a close eye on minor fitness concerns involving all-rounder Cameron Green and wicketkeeper Josh Inglis. However, their batting lineup remains formidable, with Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne expected to play important roles as Australia look to extend their lead and move closer to sealing the series.

SA vs AUS 2nd Test: Gqeberha Weather Forecast

The weather could play a crucial role in the second Test between South Africa and Australia at St George’s Park in Gqeberha during Australia’s tour of South Africa in 2026. While cloudy conditions and a possibility of showers could affect the opening two days, the forecast suggests a significant improvement as the match progresses. With mostly dry weather expected from Day 3 onwards, the teams could enjoy better conditions for uninterrupted cricket, although cloud cover and breezy spells may influence play at different stages.

Day 1: Cloudy Morning Followed by Sunshine

Gqeberha is expected to experience a maximum temperature of 20°C on the opening day. The morning is forecast to remain cloudy before a mix of sunshine and clouds develops during the afternoon. The probability of precipitation stands at 25%, while cloud cover is expected to reach 83%. Although the chances of rain are relatively low, the overcast conditions could influence the early stages of the contest.

Day 2: Morning Showers Could Interrupt Play

The second day could present the biggest weather- challenge, with temperatures expected to reach 18°C. A few showers are forecast during the morning, accompanied by an 80% probability of precipitation. Cloud cover is expected to decrease to 54% as the day progresses, with breezy conditions likely to develop. Rain interruptions remain a possibility, making this a key day to watch for potential delays or lost playing time.

Day 3: Sunshine Returns with Minimal Rain Threat

Conditions are expected to improve considerably on the third day, with the temperature rising to 21°C. The forecast indicates pleasant weather, with periods of sunshine interrupted by occasional clouds. The probability of precipitation is just 3%, suggesting very little chance of rain affecting the match. Despite cloud cover remaining at 73%, the largely dry outlook should provide a favourable opportunity for uninterrupted cricket.

Day 4: Pleasant Conditions with Afternoon Breeze

The fourth day is expected to bring a maximum temperature of 23°C, making it the warmest day of the forecast period. Partly sunny skies should create pleasant conditions for players and spectators, although breezy weather is anticipated during the afternoon. With only an 8% probability of precipitation and cloud cover at 40%, the likelihood of rain- interruptions appears low. The favourable forecast could allow both teams to make the most of the day’s play.

Day 5: Partly Sunny and Breezy Conditions

The final day is forecast to see temperatures reach 20°C, with partly sunny skies and breezy conditions throughout the day. The probability of precipitation is only 5%, while cloud cover is expected to remain around 39%. With rain unlikely to pose a major threat, the weather outlook is encouraging for a potential finish to the Test. If the match remains finely balanced, favourable conditions could allow the teams to complete the contest with minimal weather disruption.

St George’s Park Pitch Report

The pitch at St George’s Park in Gqeberha is expected to offer an exciting contest between bat and ball in the second Test between South Africa and Australia. The surface traditionally provides assistance to fast bowlers, particularly during the opening sessions, when cloud cover and moisture can help generate movement through the air and off the pitch. With showers possible on Day 2, seamers could play a crucial role early in the match, while batters will need patience and disciplined shot selection to build substantial innings. As the game progresses, the surface could become more favourable for batting, although spinners may also come into play if the pitch begins to deteriorate. A first-innings total of around 300–320 runs could prove competitive, but the final assessment will depend on the condition of the surface on match day.
