The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the official squad and full schedule of Team India for the upcoming New Zealand tour. This will be the longest New Zealand tour of the Indian team so far, in which an exciting match will be seen between the two teams. On this much-awaited tour, the Indian team will play a series of five T20 Internationals, five ODIs and two Test matches. The tour will begin with a five-match T20 series from October 22.
Akash Deep and Anshul Kamboj return to the test team Fast bowlers Akash Deep and Anshul Kamboj have returned to the team for the Test series against New Zealand. Akash Deep is returning to the field after fully recovering from a stress fracture in his lower back. He last performed brilliantly on the England tour in 2025. At the same time, Anshul Kamboj has also been included in the team and he is also a part of the India A team for the multi-day matches against New Zealand A. Apart from this, wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has also got a place in the Test squad, although his availability in the final playing eleven will completely depend on fitness clearance.
Jasprit Bumrah will be seen only in test series
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will play only Test series on this entire tour. The selectors and team management have taken this decision keeping in mind his workload, as India has to play an important five-match Test series against Australia at home early next year. Bumrah had made a comeback from the T20 format after a knee injury and was also a part of the Indian team that recently won the Asian Games in Japan. They will now report to the Center of Excellence (CoE).
Change in captaincy and opportunity for new faces in ODI series Shubman Gill will lead the team in the first three matches of the five-match ODI series against New Zealand, after which he will focus on preparing for red-ball cricket. At the same time, star batsman Shreyas Iyer will captain Team India in the last two matches of the series. Apart from this, Tilak Verma has returned to the ODI team after December 2025, while young wicketkeeper batsman Kumar Kushagra has been included in the Indian team for the first time. Experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been left out of the ODI squad.
