Delhi Capitals have roped in former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as their Assistant and Batting Coach for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season. The franchise announced the development on October 13, 2026, as Yuvraj Singh begins his first coaching stint in the IPL.

The 45-year-old Yuvraj will be working alongside newly hired head coach Sourav Ganguly as Delhi Capitals look to make an impact this season. Delhi Capitals co-owner and GMR Sports founder Kiran Kumar Grandhi welcomed the former India international to the franchise, saying his vast experience, combative mindset and ability to develop players will play a big role in the team's success.

Yuvraj Singh brings extensive international and IPL experience

“We are delighted to welcome Yuvraj Singh to Delhi Capitals as our Assistant and Batting Coach. His extraordinary career, combative spirit and deep-rooted knowledge of the game are sure to be a great addition to our coaching setup,” said Grandhi, who has signed the 39-year-old former all-rounder.

He explained that his first formal coaching assignment in the IPL would give the franchise insight and a winning mentality, saying he was confident the former all-rounder would contribute significantly to the team's campaign.

Yuvraj, who has played 304 ODIs, 40 Tests and 58 T20Is for India, was a stand-out performer for the country during the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup win in 2007, as well as the ICC Cricket World Cup triumph in 2011.

The left-handed batsman has enjoyed a successful IPL career, playing 132 matches and scoring 2,750 runs in the competition, while also managing to take 36 wickets. He was also a valuable all-rounder for the various franchises he represented in the competition.

Yuvraj Singh has a long-standing connection with Delhi Capitals

Yuvraj is no stranger to the Delhi Capitals setup, helping the franchise to the finals of the 2015 IPL season, playing for Delhi Daredevils. The franchise bought him for INR 16 crore at the auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL auction history at the time.

His return to a coaching role in Delhi is also likely to reunite him with his former team and give him the opportunity to contribute to the franchise's next campaign in the 2027 IPL.

His experience in major knockout matches, along with his strong performances in high-pressure situations, will help Delhi Capitals to bolster their batting department for the 2027 campaign.

Yuvraj Singh excited to begin his coaching career

Yuvraj Singh was thrilled to have been given the opportunity to join Delhi Capitals, explaining that it would be the start of an exciting new chapter. He was also excited to work alongside Ganguly for the first time since his playing days.

“I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals. I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I'm also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches,” Yuvraj said.

The former all-rounder also revealed that coaching was something he was passionate about, adding he was excited to start working with the squad. He was confident the experience would be an exciting journey and hoped to play a part in helping the franchise achieve success.

The former India all-rounder's appointment gives Delhi Capitals playing experience to bolster their coaching staff, as they prepare for IPL 2027. His main focus would be on the team's batting department, but his experience of winning key international sporting fixtures could also help the team's players in high-pressure situations.
